What is a PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained tremendous momentum in the fields of aesthetics, traumatology, rheumatology, surgery and veterinary practice.  Essentially, it's the part of your own blood that contains the concentrated amount of growth factors and platelets.

 

At Tru You Medical, we use the WorldPRP system, one of the most efficient and versatile PRP technologies available on the market.

 

After collecting a small amount of your own blood, we use this special centrifuge to separate the Platelet-Rich Plasma from red blood cells. PRP is then injected into targeted areas to treat various conditions.

PRP procedure

  1. Collect blood. A PRP facial starts with a small amount of blood being collected from your arm with a special needle. Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt!

  2. Derive PRP. The blood is then placed into a special centrifuge machine that spins rapidly to separate Platelet-Rich Plasma from red blood cells. This takes only three minutes.

  3. Inject PRP. Once the separation process is completed, your PRP will be injected under the skin within the treatment area. This could include your face, sections of your scalp, or even stretchmarks on your body - it all depends on the conditions we are aiming to treat. The entire procedure can be accompanied by laughing gas (nitrous oxide) and, therefore, is completely painless. The treatment will typically be over in 30 minutes or less, and you will be able to drive yourself home immediately.

  4. Recover. Immediately after your Ottawa PRP treatment, your skin will look slightly pink in colour and may feel warm to touch. You may notice tiny pin-point marks at the PRP injection sites, which should fade within 24 hours. You will be able to resume your daily activities immediately, but full recovery will take a couple of days.

  5. Repeat! We typically recommend our patients to have 3 or more treatments in Ottawa, spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results. The results from PRP are not immediate; instead, they occur gradually over the course of several months.
